It can often be observed that Instagram introduces certain novelties within its platform, with the aim of improving the user experience. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve user interaction, Instagram is changing the way links are placed within stories, which we wrote about in April this year.

Using links on Instagram

When it is not about sponsored posts, the use of links within the Instagram platform is only possible in the following way:

  • In the profile description
  • As a swipe-up link within the Story (for business profiles with over 10k followers).

What change is expected?

As announced, Instagram will completely abolish the Swipe-up link, which has been used for a long time to place links within stories and bring users to the site, landing page , shop , news, and the like.

The famous “swipe up” becomes a thing of the past, and it is replaced by a link sticker.

Instagram lists several benefits of this change:

  • Simplified creation of stories – Story stickers such as donations, music, polls, quizzes, and now a link, help you to further express yourself and share what is important to you on Instagram – and visually beautifully displayed and emphasized.

  • Additional creative control – link sticker it looks and works the same as the others (question, poll, location…) and provides increased creator control. It can be switched to different styles, resized and placed anywhere on the story to engage the user in the right way.

  • Engagement – we know that they are engagement and familiarity important to brands. In this way, you can get quick reactions and answers to the stories they have link sticker , the same as on every other Story which is shared. Otherwise, before you could not get feedback (response to story) when it is present Swipe-up link.

Currently, Swipe-up is displayed at the bottom of the screen, so by adding a link sticker (which can be placed anywhere on the visual), there will be more creative possibilities available, which will help increase clicks and visits to the site.

On the other hand, swiping up quickly has become commonplace, so it may take some time to change user behavior.

It remains to be seen whether the new option will eventually be available to all users or remain limited to only those profiles with over 10,000 followers. From In June, Instagram announced that the link sticker option for all users is the ultimate goal, as it enables more functionality within stories.
