How do I install a WordPress theme through the admin panel?

If you want to install a free theme in the WordPress.org directory you can find about 4000 themes that you can use. The first step is to log in to your WordPress admin dashboard. On the left side, select the Appearance button, then Themes, and click on the Add New button.

On the next screen, you will have the option to choose between themes that you can install on your platform. Choosing the right theme depends on the needs and purpose of your website. Also, by clicking on the Themes button, you will get an overview of the available themes that are already installed and only need to be activated.

When you select a new theme or select one of the pre-installed themes, you’ll be presented with a screen with the Activate and Live Preview buttons. As the names suggest, these are two options for activating a theme on the site and the other for viewing the appearance of the theme before activating it.

Click on the activate button and you have successfully installed and activated your WordPress theme. Depending on the theme, there may be additional setting options that you may need to configure.

For example, your theme may ask you to install recommended plugins for the theme, download demo data, or review settings. You can follow the on-screen instructions or select Customize to customize your theme yourself.

How to upload a new theme?

The first method that we have covered only allows you to install free themes that are available in the WordPress.org directory . But what if you want to install one of the premium WordPress themes? Or a custom theme?

In this case, you will need to install the theme by uploading it to the platform first. To get started, you’ll need to download .zip file of the theme you’ve purchased. Then you repeat the similar process explained earlier in the text. On the left side, select the Appearance button, then Themes, and click on the Add New button. This will take you to a page to add a new theme that shows the available free themes. If you already have a theme that you want to install, click on the Upload Theme button at the top of the screen. You will be prompted to select .zip file that you downloaded earlier. Select the file and click Install Now.
