The long-announced merger of Facebook Messenger , Instagram Direct and WhatsApp is finally starting to get its concrete realization. Last year Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced his plans to merge WhatsApp , Facebook and Instagram . The whole situation with the corona virus pandemic has postponed the planned implementation date, but it seems that the plan has started to be implemented. First, Facebook and Instagram will merge, respectively Messenger and Instagram DM .
Messenger and Instagram DM are merging
Facebook is certain began giving Instagram users the option of merging Messenger ‘s inbox with Instagram Direct , which allows sending messages simultaneously via both platforms. Users see a pop-up when they open Instagram informing them of this update.
“There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram ,” the notice reads.

The notice goes on to highlight the following benefits of merging the two chat platforms: a new multi-colored chat look, reacting with any emoticon, swiping to reply to a message, chatting with friends who only use Facebook . Before you decide to update, keep in mind that it will change the entire look of your Instagram messages.
This change, as expected, was first launched in the USA. According to official statements from Facebook , a relatively small number of people have been able to upgrade to this new Instagram messaging experience, with the hope that they will enjoy the experience and expect testing in other countries as well, so that they can gain valuable insights from user feedback.
The DM icon in the Instagram app (located in the upper right corner) has also been replaced by the Facebook Messenger logo. Facebook also emphasized that by unifying these platforms, they want to “build the best possible messaging experience, and people want messaging to be fast, simple, reliable and private.” So we’re working to make more of our messaging products end-to-end encrypted, and we’re looking at ways to make it easier for family and friends to access social media.”
If you still want to keep the classic design of Instagram ‘s DMs or you want to leave these two inboxes separate, select the option “Not now” at the bottom of the warning that will appear. This update seems to be most useful for Instagram users who are not active on Facebook and want to stay in touch with friends and family who would rather communicate via Messenger . Now Messenger users can communicate with Instagram users without leaving their platform of choice.
