Instagram is introducing suggested posts
Instagram introduced suggested posts to its users’ main Feed , showing them content from accounts they don’t follow. The content of posts from accounts you don’t follow will now appear after you view content from people you follow.
A new ” Suggested Posts ” section appears in the user’s main feed immediately after the screen that informs you that you have viewed all the posts of the accounts you follow.
Traditionally, Instagram’s main feed was reserved for content that users chose to follow. The exception, of course, was sponsored posts by advertisers. Now Instagram allows organic content in the main Feed that users have not opted for.
This update is getting a lot of criticism from Instagram users due to the fact that they are getting content in their feeds that they didn’t ask for.
Instagram suggested posts ( Suggested Posts )
After users view all recent content from people they follow, Instagram Feed will display a collection of suggested posts. Continuing to scroll will bring users to a list of suggested posts. Instagram will endlessly generate new suggested posts, so users can keep scrolling to their heart’s content. This option is irresistibly reminiscent of Tik Tok where you can also view the content indefinitely.
Suggested posts in a user’s main feed will be similar to content they already follow. Suggested posts are designed to collect content similar to your past interests, unlike the Explore option, which is more for exploring a wider range of content.
Instagram says: “When you scroll through your feed, you may see suggested posts after viewing all the latest posts from accounts you follow. These suggestions are based on posts from accounts like the ones you follow and posts similar to the ones you’ve liked or saved. “
If users are not interested in a particular post, they can send feedback to Instagram . Feedback will be reflected in future proposals. Simply tap the three-dot icon that appears at the top of the post and select “I’m not interested.” In addition to an auto-selected selection of organic posts, this new Instagram Feed section will also feature ads. Organic content will be limited to photos and videos only. That means no IGTV or Instagram Reels content.
The main objections to the new option are that people will be shown content they didn’t want or potentially find uninteresting. But also that people will spend too much time on Instagram . Instagram has a simple answer to these criticisms. Each user will be clearly notified when they have viewed all the content of the account they are following. That way, he will be able to decide if he wants to search for more new content. On the other hand, Instagram says that a large number of users continue to search for new interesting content even after reviewing the news of the accounts they follow. Guided by that experience, they want to offer them the most relevant and high-quality content for them.
