The March 2024 Google Core Update can bring major shakeups to the SEO industry. This major update could take the web by storm in the same way that the Panda or Penguin updates did.
March 2024 Google Core Update
Google has announced a major update to its algorithms and search policies to tackle spam and low-quality content on its search engine. The March 2024 Google Core Update is said by the company to be more extensive than regular updates.

This update includes algorithm changes to improve the quality of search results and reduce spam content.
Improved quality ranking
One of the main focuses of the March 2024 Core Update is improving Google’s ranking system.
“We’re making algorithmic improvements to our core ranking systems to ensure we display the most useful information on the web and reduce unoriginal content in search results,” said Elizabeth Tucker, one of the directors at Google.
The company has been working to reduce useless and unoriginal content since 2022, and the March 2024 update builds on those efforts.
Refined ranking systems will better understand whether web pages could be more useful, have a better user experience, or appear to be built primarily for search engines rather than humans.
Google expects that combining this update and its previous efforts together will reduce low-quality, unoriginal content in search results by 40%.
In addition to the ranking adjustments, Google is updating its spam policy to remove “low quality” content from search results.
According to Google:
“Starting today, we will take measures against several types of these manipulative behaviors.” While our ranking systems prevent many types of low-quality content from ranking highly in Search, these updates allow us to take more targeted action against our spam content policies. “
Google is strengthening its policy against using automation to generate low-quality or unoriginal content on a large scale to manipulate search rankings.
The updated policy will focus on the malicious behavior of producing content on a large scale to improve search rankings, whether automation, humans, or a combination of both are involved.

Google says:
“This will allow us to take action on more types of content with little or no value created at scale, such as pages that pretend to have answers to popular searches but don’t provide useful content.” “
Abuse of site reputation
Google is addressing the issue of site reputation abuse, where trusted websites host low-quality third-party content in order to take advantage of the hosting site’s strong reputation.
Google will now consider such content as spam, if it is produced primarily for ranking purposes and without close monitoring by the website owner.
Abuse of expired domains
Google’s updated spam policy will target expired domain abuse, where expired domains are purchased and repurposed to improve search rankings for low-quality content. This practice can mislead users into thinking that new content is part of an older, trusted site.
Websites have two months to comply with the new site reputation policy. Other changes take effect immediately.
Google’s announcement underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of its search results.
“Search helps people with billions of questions every day, but there will always be areas where we can improve,” Tucker said. “We’ll continue to work hard to keep low-quality content in Search low and show more information made to help people.” “
