It always sounds promising at the beginning. “I’ve been working really hard on my site. I put a lot of time and effort into it, but it just doesn’t get any response. Can you take a look?”
I don’t want to watch. Because I already know what I will find. And that just makes me sad.
Good site design. Perfectly decent headlines. Carefully, even painstakingly written articles, describing 7 ways to do something.
This blogger has been learning and it’s great. We love the content marketing strategy. But not when writers forget the most important thing: Nobody has the time or concentration to read a boring site.
Why do we do it? Why are we launching a new site, when there are already hundreds of similar sites?”
Stop being boring
This is how an interesting article begins, written by Sonia Simone, one of the founders of Copyblogger Media for the website Copyblogger .
Sonia says that there is one main reason why so much boring content is published, and that is – the fear that someone will not like it!
“We don’t want to use an unusual word, because someone won’t like it.
We don’t want to bring up a difficult topic or a controversial issue because someone won’t like it.”
We have forgotten what it was like
Sonia Simone compared adults to children.
“If you ever have the opportunity to spend time with very young children, you will notice something – no child is boring.

Their thoughts, their facial expressions, their views, their wild passions – these are not boring people.
Children are not boring for two reasons:
- They care bizarrely deeply about things.
- They don’t know that it’s wrong to be who they are.
A word or two about honesty and outrageousness
“It’s pretty easy to piss people off to get their attention. In fact, it’s easier than ever. But bullying other people to get attention is not “authenticity.” That’s just bullying. And the success it leads to is short-lived and shallow, if at all.”
What to do differently
“So I’m not advocating that you go back to stomping, screaming, or throwing things (like when you were a kid).
Growing up is fantastic. I love adults.
What I’m advocating is that you get back into the habit of telling the truth about who you are.”
And finally, the most important thing you can do to end the terrible cycle of boring writing is to write in your own voice. In your honest, fearless voice. Even if it bothers people. Even if it makes people nervous. It’s not about being loud. It’s about being real.

Sonia says you can never mix two voices that are authentic. You will always recognize the writing style of someone who uses their own words. Every person and every style of writing is special, and as she believes – sometimes stubborn, maybe sometimes a little restless. And each of them should be a call to action.
She ends her text with the sentence: “Please, please, stop undermining all your hard work by being afraid to use your true voice. The world needs to know what you honestly have to say.”
