Many have questioned the complex algorithms used to generate search results, particularly in how links are used to rank pages.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Links are no longer a top ranking factor<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Google&#8217;s algorithm is the basis of why links matter. It crawls the internet to determine the relevance and authority <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitizer.rs\/en\/services-digitizer\/website-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">of websites<\/a><\/span> and links. Relevance is determined <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitizer.rs\/en\/news-stories\/how-to-create-the-highest-quality-content-for-social-networks-and-websites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by the content of the web page<\/a><\/span> and how well <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitizer.rs\/en\/news-stories\/the-letter-t-you-are-something\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it responds to the user&#8217;s query<\/a><\/span> . Authority is determined by the number of quality links pointing to a website. These two factors, relevance and authority, are critical for a website to rank high in Google search results. This was done by measuring the quality and quantity of links. The more quality links a website had, the better it ranked on search engine results pages (SERPs).  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">But are things still like that?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Links not so important anymore?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The question of the importance of links today was raised by a <a style=\"color: #333333;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jenstar\/status\/1704972204532776982\">discussion on the X platform<\/a> , where people from Google claimed that the importance of links today is far less than before. What&#8217;s more, according to these claims, links are no longer even among the top 3 most important factors when it comes to ranking. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The website <a style=\"color: #333333;\" href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/ama-google-gary-illyes-seo-takeaways-432325\">Search Engine Land confirmed this claim<\/a> in an interview with Google&#8217;s Gary Illyes.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;25193&#8243; css_animation=&#8221;fadeIn&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1696354906828{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1696355107848{padding-top: 50px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}&#8221; font_family=&#8221;Open Sans&#8221;]<span style=\"color: #333333;\">&#8220;Links are not a &#8216;top 3&#8217; ranking signal and they haven&#8217;t been for a while,&#8221; Illyes said, adding that there really isn&#8217;t a universal top 3 factor. So it&#8217;s absolutely possible to rank without links, Illyes said, citing an example of a page with zero internal or external links that he knew ranked #1, and Google just found the page through <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitizer.rs\/en\/news-stories\/xml-sitemap-and-its-key-role-in-website-indexing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Sitemap<\/a><\/span> . <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Content is still the number one ranking signal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">&#8220;Without content, it&#8217;s literally impossible to rank.&#8221; If you don&#8217;t have words on the page, you won&#8217;t rank. For each site there will be something different like the top 2 or 3 ranking factors,&#8221; Illyes said.  <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>This claim is not new<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">If we follow this topic a little back in time, we will see that a year or so ago, Duy Nguyen from Google&#8217;s search quality team, said: &#8221; <em>backlinks as a signal have a much less significant impact compared to when Google search first started many years ago<\/em> &#8220;. Links have played and we would say still play a very important role in website ranking. Time will tell if that will change in the future.
