Rivalry between two companies, which are usually leaders in a certain field of business, is nothing new. Like Coca-Cola and Pepsi , Marvel and DC , Canon and Nikon , Airbus and Boeing … so are Corel and Adobe for design.

Corel has long lost the race as far as bitmaps are concerned, where the absolute leader is Adobe Photoshop . It should not even be mentioned that in the English language the verb ” Photoshoped” (photoshopped in our free translation) is now officially accepted. However, in vector graphics there is still a rivalry between Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator .

Adobe Illustrator vs Corel Draw

Although in professional circles they will probably laugh that we even compare these two applications, it seems to us that it would be rather frivolous to write off Corel Draw so easily. After all, they are just “tools” that, depending on your needs, have certain advantages over their rivals.

Adobe Illustrator

Perhaps it should be noted right away that if you plan to make money from design and look for employment in that field, the Adobe package is certainly standard. Therefore, you will hardly find an employer who will not require you to work in Illustrator and Photoshop .

However, there is nothing about vector graphics itself that you can do with Adobe Illustrator that you can’t do with Corel Draw . What makes the difference though is that Illustrator has automated processes and commands that save you time above all else.

Another big advantage is certainly compatibility with other applications. Adobe file formats are easy to transfer from one application to another, while with Corel you will have to struggle with it. Not to mention how easily Corel ‘s files “burst” when loaded into other applications.

Did you know that the pdf file format is a product of the Adobe family?

In addition to compatibility between applications, it is also very important to note that it will be much easier to coordinate, that is, correct and refine files sent to you by other designers. That’s why Adobe is the industry standard.

However, Adobe has its own flaws.

And if completely justified, one of them is certainly the price. Apart from the price of the applications, it should be noted that Adobe applications require a fairly high performance of your computer in order to run smoothly.

Also one of the disadvantages is that Adobe applications will not work in Linux .

Another of the disadvantages that you will certainly easily overcome is that at first glance, the desktop ( dashboard ) looks rather more complex than it is the case with Corel . People who have not used either of these two applications will rather opt for Corel if they want to finish a job quickly and once.

Corel Draw

So what we have already mentioned is that the price for Corel is significantly more affordable than Adobe and that it could be said to be more user friendly .

Corel is definitely at an advantage when it comes to small businesses and craft shops. More precisely, if speed is not required and you do not receive a lot of material from other designers, you do everything ” in house “. Examples are stamp cutters, sign shops and photocopiers.

One of the main disadvantages is that Corel Draw can only run on the Windows operating system.

Certainly there are other applications and it would not be fair without mentioning Inkscape for example. An application that is also quite good for beginners who just want to learn about vector graphics, and its biggest advantage (let’s say probably the only one) is free download .
