If you use YouTube for your business, you should also understand how YouTube analytics work. YouTube analytics offers an incredible amount of information, from audience demographics, the keywords people use to find your videos, to the source of traffic (from which platform they came to your video).

You access YouTube analytics by clicking on your channel icon and selecting YouTube Studio. On the new page, on the left side, there are various options for your channel. Select Analytics .

 

Basic YouTube analyst

Within YouTube Analytics, you’ll see various reports that help you understand your data.

Overview

This report is a summary of the performance of your videos. Something like the Google Analytics home page. Overview it shows you if your numbers are up or not. Some of the parameters you can see here are video views, watch time, number of subscribers. Here you can also see your recent videos ranked by views.

Reach

With this indicator, you can track how viewers are discovering your videos. You can also see here:

  • Impressions , the number of times the thumbnail was displayed on the screens of YouTube users
  • Impressions CTR , the number of views per display on user screens
  • Views , the number of views of your videos
  • Unique viewers , the estimated number of people who viewed your content

Here you can also see what keywords your viewers have typed into the search to find your videos.

Engagement

Of course, the number of views is not all that matters when it comes to video performance. In this report, you can see the total watch time of your videos, as well as the average watch time per view.

Audience

The audience indicator shows you who is watching your videos. Here you can see the ratio between new viewers and those who have already seen some of your videos.

Some of the parameters displayed here are:

  • The demographics, age and gender of your viewers
  • Country
  • What hours are your viewers watching your videos?
  • Which channels do your viewers follow?
