To apply the options, you first need to click on the desired icon, and then make a selection. There’s also an option.” FEATHER“, which in order to be applied needs to be activated before making a selection. It is used for a slight transition between the edges and the middle of the selection.
There are three options in the top panel: Normal, Fixed ratio, and Fixed style.
Fixed ratio means that when a selection is withdrawn, it is proportionally increased or decreased based on the given parameters in the width and height fields.
Fixed style is the third option. where the size of the selection is already determined by the parameters entered in the width and height fields.. With just one click of the mouse on the desktop, we get a pre-prepared selection.
The Single Row Marquee Tool and the Single Column Marquee Tool are selections that are used to select a single row of pixels.
The Single Row Marquee Tool is a selection for a vertical row of pixels.
Single Column Marquee Tool for the horizontal row of pixels. Additional options that are applicable to this type of selection are: making a selection, adding a selection, subtracting a selection, and intersecting a selection, as well as the option ” Feather“.
Lasso Tool
The next group of tools that we will explain is the Lasso Tool. Contains 3 types of tools Lasso Tool, Polygonal Lasso Tool and Magnetic Lasso Tool.
The Lasso tool is one of the first tools for making selections in Photoshop. It is used to make quick and incorrect selections.
Polygonal Lasso Tool is a simple selection tool in Photoshop, it works on the principle of creating straight lines. This means that with this tool we can make selections without crooked and winding lines. A selection of Lasso Tool, Polygonal Lasso Tool–a can be closed automatically or by clicking on the beginning of the path used to make the selection. These selections of possibilities include: making a new selection, adding a selection, subtracting a selection, and intersecting a selection, as well as the possibility ” Feather“.
Magnetic Lasso Tool is a tool that recognizes the edges of the object around which the selection is made and attaches its path to those same edges of the object. With this tool, more accurate selections are made and there are more control options. In addition to the basic options (making a new selection, adding a selection, subtracting a selection, cross-sectioning a selection, and a feather), it also contains a Width, Contrast and Frequency.
Width This is the radius within which the cursor will recognize the edges of the object. To make it easier to understand what Width works and presents, it is necessary to press CapsLock On the keyboard, the cursor then changes to a circle with a cross in the middle. The circle around the cursor represents Width. You’ll see how the parameters are entered into the field. Width And the circle around the cursor increases, and vice versa. This means that the greater the number of Width The larger the radius of edge recognition. With a smaller number in the Width field, the radius will be smaller and more precise. It’s certainly easier to work with Magnetic Lasso Tool if the radius of the Width is larger.
Contrast It refers to the edge of the object around which the selection is made. This means how much difference in color or brightness an object or background must contain to be considered an edge. For black and white settings, a maximum of contras can be used. But for “drowned” images where the edges cannot be so clearly determined, less contrast is used,
Frequency It is the number of points, i.e. anchor point. The higher the number entered in the field Frequency is that the selection that is being made will contain more points, and the smaller the number entered in the Frequency field. The selection will contain fewer points. Fewer points in the selection are used for simpler shapes, and more points for more complex objects. Anchor points We can add ourselves for better selection. When the selection path deviates from the edges of the object we want to select, we can easily return to the correct part of the path by deleting the points. anchor points. The point, i.e. “anchor point” is removed by pressing “Backspace“”. The points that are deleted do not interrupt the flow of selection.
You noticed that when working with selection tools there is an option “Anti-alias“. Anti-alias It represents the softness of the edge of selection. When this option is checked, the edges are softer, and when it is not checked, the edges of the selection are harder. That is why this field is always left checked.
Quick Selection Tool
Quick Selection Tool It’s the most popular tool for selection. There is a control panel with ” Presets“, in it there are or may be already equipped types and types of brushes with which the selection is made. It also has options for making new selections, adding selections, and subtracting selections. The addition is made by ” Shift” button that is held when the cursor is dragged, and subtracted with “Alt” button. In the top panel with options, you can adjust the size, type, area and angle of the brush with which the selection is made.
The Sample All Layers option when checked makes the selection applied to all layers, and when the Sample All Layers option is not checked, the selection can only be applied to the layer on which it was made.
Magic Wand Tool
Magic Wand Tool It is a tool that selects an area of normal light and color. This means that it selects the same or similar pixels. In the top panel are the standard options (new selection, subtract selection, and add selection).
Sample Size indicates how much sample area the tool will take to make the selection.
Tolerance It indicates the level of brightness, i.e. Indicates how many similar pixels the tool will take for selection. It changes as needed. It depends on the image and the surface you want to choose.
Contiguous When checked, the field selects similar pixels that are near it and that are touching. When this field is not checked, the tool will make a selection with similar pixels that do not touch each other.
All selections made by the presented tools can be further transformed, that is, they can be further edited. This is done by right-clicking on the selection. Then a menu window appears, which offers various types of transformations.
