It is certainly preferable to be a little more creative than a simple, recognizable “Happy New Year and Christmas” message. Of course, gifts and discounts are something that will please your users, customers and associates the most, but we also offer you a few tips on how you will stand out visually and draw attention to yourself in the sea of congratulations that will arrive during this period.

That the use of holidays for marketing purposes should not be taken lightly is certainly evidenced by Coca-Cola, which raised the New Year’s campaign to a higher level. In addition to the already recognizable creation of Santa Claus, Coca-Cola has created a number of other symbols for marketing purposes, such as polar bears and red trucks, which clearly indicate that the New Year and Christmas holidays are approaching and that apart from the time spent with family and friends, their indispensable part and Coca-Cola.

How to design a greeting card

However, let’s get back to the topic and design of the greeting card.

As technology develops over time, and thus new opportunities open up, trends and styles in design change from year to year, so even greeting cards are no exception and for them, first of all, it is desirable to be innovative in order to be noticed.

Simple design

You must not have heard ” Keep it simple ” for the first time. Even we already wrote about that trend within the theme of minimalism in design .

As people daily encounter a lot of designed content websites, social networks, catalogs, flyers, brochures, billboards… direct and simple graphic solutions can come as a “short respite” and look good at the same time.

This kind of design is characterized by a small number of graphic elements and colors with a lot of white space, i.e. empty space. Typography and images are reduced and simple.

Modern design

As the new young generations grow up, the design becomes more and more strange and unusual. So, for example, you can use graphic elements for greeting cards that don’t have to be typical for New Year’s and Christmas holidays.

Something between cute and weird so it reminds of the gaming industry and street art.

This design is characterized by bright colors, unusual typography, frequent use of emoji stickers, as well as creative solutions that look like mistakes and violations of graphic rules.

Vintage design

What is now called ” Vintage ” or ” Retro ” is a combination of styles from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

This trend in design is characterized by the use of muted colors, strong shadows, overlays , frames, large graphic elements as well as classic motifs, but in combination with modern technologies and contemporary graphic expression.

Animations

Animated greeting cards are something that certainly attracts attention, and with modern technologies it is quite simple to make them, especially since simple elements are used with simple transitions and without too long duration.

The most important thing when designing a holiday card is actually to convey a good mood among your users, even if that means you have to deviate from the graphic standards book in terms of colors or typography .
