At the end of October, the rumors that were circulating were confirmed and Facebook officially announced at its Connect 2021 event that it was changing its name, in order for the company to move forward in line with its new goals in the future.

 

Facebook is becoming a Meta

It was announced that the new name of the Facebook company will be “Meta “.

 

Is the name ” Facebook ” disappearing?

The Facebook platform, that is, the application, remains – as do all other Facebook brands and identities: Instagram , Whatsapp , Messenger and Oculus . Just as Google once switched to “Alphabet ” as a broader company name, Facebook ‘s various platforms will now be under the veil of “Meta “.

From Facebook , now Meta says:

The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s social media experiences, sometimes extended into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It will allow you to share immersive experiences with other people even when you can’t be together – and do things together that you couldn’t do in the physical world. It is the next step in the evolution of social technologies, which opens a new chapter for our company.

Facebook ‘s wider business will now be under the Meta brand, with the company separating its operational streams into two segments:

  1. Family of Apps “, which represents Facebook as we primarily know it, through Facebook , Instagram , WhatsApp and Messenger , and
  2. Reality Labs ”, which will cover its VR and AR technologies, as well as other technology options in development.

Facebook will also change its stock market name from “FB” to “MVRS” on December 1st.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined his vision for the new brand:

From now on, we will be the first metaverse, not Facebook. This means that eventually you won’t need a Facebook account to use our other services. As our new brand begins to appear in our products, I hope people around the world will get to know the Meta brand and the future we stand for.

This can be interpreted as follows: the Facebook brand is somewhat tarnished by everything that happened in the previous period and needs a fresh start, while the whole rebranding also gives Zuckerberg an opportunity to distance himself from Facebook and instead realign his name. with the concept of an evolving metaverse.

Although many have already wrongly concluded that “Meta ” is probably the new name on Facebook , the rebranding is not a big surprise, considering that Zuckerberg ‘s humanitarian organizations already own several brand titles associated with the name Meta , and also, the company is buying Meta URLs for the last few months.

It should be concluded that in practice this will not be any big change, except that they disclosed the evolution of this company, following the latest technological projects, as well as the technological development itself.
