5 Changes That Affect Your Instagram Campaigns

On December 11, 2018, Instagram changed what data for your campaigns can be accessed. Here are some important changes to be aware of if you’re running an Instagram campaign to reward comments or hashtag contests.

You’ll still be able to run this type of campaign, but the way you’ll plan them and the type of data you’ll have access to have changed.

How are Instagram campaigns changing?

In our new text, we explain to you what are the changes and novelties in Instagram campaigns and how to stay up to date with the changes, so that your campaigns do not suffer in results?

1. Changing the rewarding of comments on Instagram

One of the most popular engagement strategies on Instagram is to reward comments, where you randomly choose one of the comments from one of your posts as the winner.

For a long time, Instagram had a limit of 150 last comments on a post that could be taken down. This limitation is now a thing of the past. Using some of the tools already in place, you can now collect comments from all of your posts (even the most popular and most commented ones). You don’t have to plan ahead. The selection of the winner is also quite automated thanks to certain tools. That’s a big positive change.

2. Changing the contest hashtag

Everyone loves the hashtag contest, you’ve probably done a lot of Instagram campaigns so far. Here are a few things you should be aware of if you’re running an Instagram contest with a special hashtag (for that contest).

3. Now you need to set up your campaign before typing the first hashtag

Instagram allows you to view all posts for a specific hashtag at all times. You had to wait until the end of your contest to collect all the posts that use your hashtag.

Now you have to plan ahead. The reason for this is that Instagram now only allows you to view posts from the last 24 hours, which use a specific hashtag.

Once your campaign is set up, there are certain tools that allow you to track all new posts with the hashtag selected. This allows you to remove all the hashed content. If you’re waiting until the end of the campaign instead, you’ll only collect hashtag posts from the last 24 hours.

4. Editing old posts will not be evaluated

In the past, if one of the users added your hashtag to an old post or changed the text by adding your hashtag, this information would be collected. Now, the 24-hour rule applies in this case and an edited post will not be counted (collected) if it has not been posted in the previous few days.

We come across a lot of campaigns in which participants participate in a contest by changing an old post by commenting on it with a given hashtag. With the changes to Instagram, these posts will no longer participate in the contest.

5. The username is no longer collected

Instagram no longer releases the username of a profile that has been posted using a targeted hashtag.

You may ask yourself: So how will I know who posted the winning post?

Luckily, Instagram provides a post URL with a hashtag. Visiting that link will give you information about the user who posted the content. With the help of these URL links and specific tools, you can find out who the winner is.
