Color Replacement Tool

Color Replacement Tool enables easy color change on the object. The problem is that it is Color Replacement Tool“destructive” tool, meaning it destroys the original pixels. It also doesn’t allow control over the application of the tool, it just applies color over the original pixels.

Brush Tool

We can also change the color with basic tools such as the Brush Tool . It is necessary to make a selection of the surface that we want to change the color of, then create a new layer with the selected surface. Then choose the color you want and paint the surface and its selection with the Brush Tool . To make the color change as convincing as possible, Color or Hue Saturation should be applied to the selection layer Blend Mode .

With the help of the Levels Adjustment layer we can make the change even more believable. Also with help We can turn any color of the Levels Adjustment layer into black or white.

Hue/Saturation

Unlike the Color Replacement tool, the Hue/Sturation color change method is applicable to all surfaces and preserves the texture of the object.

The first way to replace colors using Hue/Saturation is done in the following steps:

  1. Choose the Quick Selection Tool , then make a selection that we want to change the color of.
  2. Select a new Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer , and by moving the “slider” on the Hue, Saturation and Brightness options, select the desired color.

Another way to replace colors using Hue/Saturation is done in the following steps:

  1. Select a new Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer .
  2. In its menu, select the finger icon for control, then click the color you want to change on the photo.
  3. Then new sliders around the selected color appear in the lower part of the menu. It is necessary to separate the sliders so that it focuses not only on the selected color, but also on its shades and descending tones.
  4. Changing the color is done by moving the slider (as in the previous example).

Color Range

In order to choose a certain color in the photo, we choose Color Range , which is located in the Main Menu, Select . To choose a color and change it, we apply the following steps:

  1. When we select Color Range in the given menu with Eyedrop , we click on the color in the image that we want to change, and we add shades of color with the Eyedrop icon that has a + mark next to it.
  2. When we make a color selection, then with the help of the Hue & Sturation Adjustment layer, we change the colors as in the previous examples.

If with this method we want to change the given color only on a certain part of the image, then make a selection and a new layer with it. Then, on the layer with the selection, apply the color replacement steps with Color Range .
